Located in beautiful, historic Williamsburg, Virginia, Williamsburg Plantation Resort offers all the comforts of home on 78 acres just minutes from all area attractions. For those who haven’t visited recently, you’ll quickly notice the updated flooring and new furnishings in our spacious Clubhouse. The fitness room has undergone a facelift, as well, with new cardio equipment. For the summer we add poolside Pilates Classes and from April to December we offer “Splash Dance” and “Water Walking/Water Pilates” – two very well-received water aerobics classes.
For your convenience, we have established a dedicated Activities Desk in the rear lobby of the Clubhouse. Be sure to stop by to see them or sign up for your old favorites – all listed in the “Welcome Brochure” received upon your arrival. Pool-side smoothies were a cool hit this summer as were the Airbrush Tattoos, and the weekly magic show entertained standing-room-only crowds. Join us for the very popular wine and cheese welcome reception every Monday night, or, during the summer, chill out poolside with hot dogs and lemonade at the hot dog cook out, sit for a caricature, enroll your teen in the weekly teen pizza pool party, and keep the youngsters busy making vacation souvenirs and art projects throughout the week.
For adults and older-aged children we have a variety of hands-on workshops for you to choose from. Ever wanted to try your hand at Stained Glass or Jewelry Beading? On-site workshops are held weekly in these two hobbies, as well as One-Stroke Painting and Scrapbooking. In the Spring and Fall we offer Colonial Dancing to give you some insight to colonial entertainment and get you feet tappin’!
Wondering what you’ll do and see in Williamsburg? If you’re into history, you’ll be in good company! Known as America’s Colonial Capital, history abounds in Williamsburg. Colonial Williamsburg, a living history museum, depicts the life and times of Colonial America. At nearby Jamestown Settlement, the story of America’s first permanent English settlement (13 years before the Pilgrims landed in Massachusetts) and the Virginia Indians they encountered is told through film, gallery exhibits and living history. Fast forward to the Revolutionary War with a visit to historic Yorktown. In October, 1781, the Siege of Yorktown culminated with the British surrender to American and French forces under George Washington’s command ending the six-year Revolutionary War and setting the stage for a new government and nation. Who said history can’t be fun? And when in Yorktown, don’t miss a visit to the Riverwalk area where you can walk on the beach, visit their antique and specialty shops and experience unique dining opportunities.
Moving on to a different kind of fun, Busch Gardens Williamsburg has held the title of the World’s Most Beautiful Theme Park 20 years running. Chills and spills, twists and turns are around every corner as you enjoy the sights and sounds of Europe. On autumn evenings, they “spook” up the park at night for Howl-O-Scream and have a variety of Haunted Houses, themed shows and other frightening features. In the winter, the sounds of Christmas concerts, live carolers and Celtic holiday harmonies will fill the air at Christmas Town at Busch Gardens.
For the coolest kind of summertime fun—it’s Water Country USA, the Mid-Atlantic’s largest water park, just minutes from Busch Gardens. Or lie out at the resorts Outdoor Pool, enjoy a smoothie, join us for the ice cream social and get to know your neighbors for the week.
And, as is true of any great vacation destination, Williamsburg offers adult entertainment as well…activities like championship golf and world-class outlet shopping at over 120 stores at Prime Outlets Williamsburg (located just a few miles from the resort). Be sure to visit the enormous new Yankee Candle Flagship store a few minutes away. Merchant’s Square in Colonial Williamsburg offers many unique and specialty stores.
Dining opportunities abound in Williamsburg as well! Experience regional or colonial favorites at any of the dining venues associated with Colonial Williamsburg. The Merchant’s Square area of Colonial Williamsburg offers unique dining at such places as The Fat Canary, Blue Talon Bistro, Berrett’s Seafood and The Trellis – famous for its “Death by Chocolate” dessert. You realize there are no calories on vacation, right?
After dinner there are several evening entertainment choices and other art offerings throughout the year. Live performances with Colonial Williamsburg include “Cry Witch”, “Pirates Among Us” and the “Crystal Concert”. Williamsburg Plantation Resort offers the “Hauntings of Williamsburg” Tour from Spring to Fall and during the holidays we offer the “Williamsburg by Candlelight” Tour. In the summer the Virginia Shakespeare Festival performs at College of William and Mary’s Phi Beta Kappa Hall, community theatres throughout the year offer a variety of plays, and there are several farmer’s markets and Art, Wine, Italian and Greek Festivals.
